perpetually on the turntable: “white pony” by deftones
when a dear friend left town a few years ago, they sold off a ton of records, and they gave me a deal on the whole deftones discography. best investment i ever made.
i’m still impressed with the quality of every album’s LP master; their LPs consistently are the way i want to experience their albums. this one is my favourite listening experience; the drums have a depth impressive even for vinyl and they’ve carefully thought out side lengths so there’s room for every track’s grooves to breathe. my only complaint is their mixes are a little crispy on the high end.
and beyond that, chino is a gold standard for his abstract-but-poignant lyricism and his delicate balance between vulnerable and savage. the songs on this record still give me chills 20 years later.
