the NWS forecast made me laugh and laugh, the forecaster HAS HAD IT

the temp discussion of the forecast was this: "Notice I didn`t talk about temperatures yet? Yeah, don`t want to but I spose I must. It`s spring, birds chirping, grass growing, flowers blooming, not so if you live in
eastern Utah and the Western Slope. Thanks to our cold front
yesterday much colder temperatures will continue to move into the
area. Case in point, H7 temps noon yesterday ranged from -9C north
to -7C down south. Fine. Today, models prog these same temps to
range from -16C north to about -12C south. Now that`s just not
fair, folks. How are we supposed to get warm with temperatures
like these? Fact is, we won`t . . . Yeah, sure, much
colder than normal. Thanks for asking."

I thoroughly enjoy seeing this type of humor appear. What would be even better is listening to NOAA broadcasting this message over the airwaves in "his" deadpan voice though.

You should see how the internal forecast text can look before it gets sanitized/clarified for public use. I used to have access to the Canadian Weather Service internal feed (woo telnet!) and it had its fair amount of snark (northern folks teasing Vancouver Island staff about "do you know what that white stuff that comes out the sky is called?") and humanity (birthday wishes, family news) mixed in with the data. It was very sweet, and a reminder that weather reporting is a very human activity

This reminds me of the chatty and silly update notes on the old Weather Underground app. Always worth a read for a smile, too bad they got lost to the current corporate overlords.

For the peanut gallery: if you haven’t already, look up your local NWS Area Forecast Discussion. They come out twice daily (iirc), and along with the forecast, you’ll sometimes be treated to bon mots such as those above.
