Flat Tire Tuesday
alt text
The inaugural ride on the new-to-me fat bike (https://mltshp.com/p/1OSCG) was going great, until I noticed the bike no longer wanted to turn. Clearing a small log a few minutes later, it became obvious I was quickly losing air up front. I walked it out of the woods to the paved trail, with a new-to-me bike I wanted a “get picked up” backup plan just-in case.
I try to be prepared, so I did have tools, CO2 cartridges, and a spare tube. It wasn’t especially hard to change the tire, but I couldn’t find any obvious cause of the air loss (usually a thorn around here) which always makes me nervous putting a new tube in. The old tube also never lost all of its air, just most of it - thinking a bad valve stem. I also never got the tire to fully seat against the lip of the rim - turns out the spare tube the previous owner gave me was 29 x 3, not 26 x 4. It was noisy, but I made the two mile ride home.

Tube has probably been on the bike since it was built in 2015 and I have no idea what the previous owner put it through, safe to say a few new tubes (and a spare) are probably a good investment.
