One of my advisors had a horrible story involving walking across campus "to the computer" carrying his Fortran deck for some work for his doctorate . . . and dropping them. In a windstorm.

This is the one case I can think of that reverse enshittified. We went from a programming language that required extra purchases for each couple lines of code to languages that allow you to have all the code you want for free.
