@MackReed Checking in from a red state... nope. There are plenty of people whose livelihoods have been destroyed by Hurricane Helene here and yet are A-OK with mandates.
And that's after the Republican majority here literally skimmed a half-billion dollars of federal recovery funding for charter schools (for those outside the US: privatized schools within public school systems).
@infini I know I'm a white guy saying this to a woman of color, but... that's not funny. I've already heard ha-ha-only-serious "jokes" blaming the weather on minorities. It's a ridiculous thing to believe but people are believing it.

The thing that sickens me more than anything - the loss of life and homes and workplaces, the high winds and continued danger - is that members of the GOP want to tie disaster aid to required policy changes. If they pulled this shit in red states, people would be calling for their heads on pikes.
Consider this just such a call.
