The Great American Diner

Good pie is difficult to find outside of the Deep South or Midwest. I applaud your search.

@m3moellering as I discovered! There were a bunch more places we visited but rarely was a good pie seen until we hit "A Slice of Pie" restaurant in Rolla, Missouri. I didn't include it in the story because it was a restaurant and not a diner, but in retrospect it should of had a honorable mention. The pies here were amazing!

Rolla is a short distance from where my mother grew up and a “college town” to boot. I know southern Missouri well. Diners that are the central point of a community are more likely to have a refrigerator case of pie than those frequented by the highway population, imo. Grabbing a quick bite seldom means having pie and coffee in the America that we’ve devolved into.

Good article! I live in the US midwest and try to eat at diners whenever i'm traveling around, they're an endangered species. Even here, not all of them have pie, or very good pie, so finding a good one is always a win.

You were so close... The Majestic or the Silver Skillet in the -other- Atlanta would have done you right. The Maj will actually melt a cheese slice on it if you ask.
