Boltvolt

Two cars, parked hatch to hatch, in a driveway. The car on the left is a black hatchback and the car on the right is silver and gives sedan vibes but is really a hatchback.

My grandfather worked at Ford for *fifty* years and my old man has a garage full of Fords and neither deserve their bloodline to be a bow tie owner, but here we are. (And maybe brand loyalty is a tool of the elites to encourage class war or maybe Ford could have just made a Focus EV instead of giant pickup trucks.)

The Bolt is amazing, fun and fast. My oldest is driving the Volt to school now and I think appreciates the fact that his first car has air conditioning. Mine did not https://mltshp.com/p/1PZ8F

My dad was a Ford brand loyalist but having a Pinto broke him. From the late 70s he only bought GM and Chrysler cars and it wasn't until the early 90s that he bought a Ford again: a Taurus. Man, he loved those, he eventually got two, maybe three.

He had been wanting an EV or hybrid from the moment the Prius was available but he was still a Ford loyalist so he held off until the Fusion Hybrid shipped in the 00s, but from the start to the end getting parts and service for it was a nightmare and by the late 10s Ford still hadn't made a plug-in hybrid version so his last car was a Prius.

My first car had air conditioning, but it was broken. Open windows, or the 4-40 cooling, was the way. People may think of it a hardship, but it builds character. The car also had manual roll-down windows which you had to roll uphill, both ways, and we liked it.

My paternal grandfather worked at the Chevrolet plant in St. Louis. My Uncle Erv was a Sr. VP of GM for Parts. But my dad had zero brand loyalty. My 1st car was a 1961 VW Beetle. It had a 6v system and I couldn’t drive at night , in the rain, with the heater/blower turned on. AC? Psssh!
