The early days of Web 2.0 were characterized for me by the weird underground flash animations that felt so far out of mainstream that it felt like a special secret place.

The moment that shattered for me was when Joel Veitch’s “rathergood” spongemonkeys suddenly appeared on tv singing the praises of Quizno’s, rather than the moon. It was the moment the barrier between two worlds came crashing down, and reality - and its capitalist hunger for profit - began invading the hidden corners of the internet looking for new content to exploit.
