Back on that grind, 30 years later

alt text
Animation of a middle aged man riding a skateboard in a suburban parking lot. He is not moving all that fast.
I haven't skated, really, since I was 17. Last month I picked up my kid's unused longboard and have started relearning how. It is great. (Two years of weekly yoga practice has improved my balance significantly, that has made it a lot more fun.)

I'm not looking to do any tricks of any kind, just happy to carve a little.

Midlife crisis are underrated. Get out there an feel something again.

Doing fun things is fun, and it's cool to have some time in middle age to rediscover fun things.

I was a roller skater in my youth. Before rollerblades, even. Wore many a toe stop to the nub. Anyway, I briefly considered lacing up my skates again recently as my granddaughters have taken it up, but then I remembered that my aunt broke BOTH her wrists in a fall skating at about my age and had to have her mother (my grandmother) come live with her for a month to help with things like WIPING HER BUTT and I came to my senses pretty quickly.
