A cyclist on a gravel road at dawn with a misty river in the distance
I am visiting Minnesota for a week. Yesterday was the culmination of my year-long bicycle training and my brother and I rode The DAMn - the day across Minnesota gravel bike race. Starting on the South Dakota border at midnight, Aug 1st we had 24 hours to get across the Wisconsin border on a set course consisting of 80% gravel roads through river bottoms and expansive ag fields.

You got to Wowsville! At least in my estimation!

DAMn that's some serious riding, hope it all went smoothly and you're getting some good rest today. I've done many gravel rides, but the longest was just over half of the DAMn, and nothing at all recently. I'm out for a much shorter and easier ride around Mpls today.

It was awesome getting to explore a part of MN that I've not really spent much time in, @wjcstp. The Minnesota River valley is gorgeous and I had the pleasure of being down in there at misty sunrise. And your bicycling community eats sleeps and breathes "Minnesota Nice" really well. Didn't hurt they offer up a cold pint of Spotted Cow at the finish line too.

I had to look it up... the 2024 event was 240 miles long. So, an average of 10 mph for 24 hours.

That's a beast. Congratulations!

This is absolutely amazing!

We managed around 11.4 mph average with three planned stops and a few other random stops, @ardgedee. Our finishing time was 21 hrs 7 min.

Between 100 miles on the MTB a few weeks ago and these 240 on the gravel steed I'm ready for some shorter rides for awhile, @cwhartman!
