End of an era in North Carolina, the legislature has ended per-year registration stickers on license plates this year. That means my humble-brag stack-of-stickers will no longer grow.
It's probably fine to end the practice, most of our plates are read by machines (or capitalist techbro megacorps bent on creating a surveillance state) anyway.
I will miss the ceremony of peeling off a new sticker and adding it to the plate just-so, like rings on a tree, as it shows off how long we've been in North Carolina.

Anyway there's a bunch of older cars whose tags renewed each Jan-March who have newer plates than everybody else whose had their cars for just as long, because of this weird burp in administrative activities.
That replacement requirement was repealed this year: https://www.yahoo.com/news... - Sounds like as long as your plate is readable you can keep it now. Turns out it might cost $15 million a year to get fresh plates on everyone's cars.
Just makes me miss the days of my old man repainting his old Massachusetts green plate so he could keep it for a few more years. Steady hands :)
