Doing great! (Today was my first day in my new running shoes.)

@snarkout thanks! i'm trying.

what new shoes did you get? how are you liking them?
snarkout pro 3 weeks ago
Just a new pair of Brooks Ghosts (18s, replacing last year's model).

Run felt okay! Last week my ankle was bothering my a little so I decided to replace them, even though I wasn't at a full year on my last pair. (I don't put a ton of miles on my shoes.)

@snarkout nice, those look great.

and hah, i WISH my walking or running shoes lasted a full year anymore, but i feel that. i always feel it in my hips and knees when i let them go longer than they should.

Yes yes yes! Keep up the hard work! May you derive joy from the use of your legs and the increased heart and breathing rate.

I’m such a big fan of big races, too, if ever you decide to train for one (or again, if you’ve already checked that off your bucket list), I hope you enjoy the big excited, nervous, collaborative community of people all just doing their best to accomplish a hard thing together. Heck I hope you enjoy that part on your own, too, I just get stocked about the unique feeling of race days (and where I am even more a living defender of the mantra “running slowly is still running” hahaha)

@nikkuneko I recently bought my first pair of Brooks Ghosts and was so happy I bought another pair.
They are lovely, light and spongey.
I only walk but they have been brilliant.
I was an ASICs guy until now. Not going back.

@samh thx u! just trying to have any kind of goal as best i can so i don't lapse into "i'm tired".

@wombatman70 i've been thinking about if i'd ever want to do a race for the community/accountability aspect. i'm not big on competitions but do recognize that having other people doing it might push me to improve. (i'm not great with group situations, but recognize i sometimes need it in small bursts.) i think if i keep pushing myself toward being able to do a 10k interrupted i may sign up for one eventually.

@roonie nice, glad to hear those have another advocate! i might look into whether they're wide enough for my toes and try them out sometime.

*uninterrupted

@nikkuneko Big races usually have very little to do with racing, honestly. Of course doing a 10k uninterrupted is a great goal, but also most races will have plenty of people alternating running and walking or just walking the whole thing! I’ve always felt them to be less about pushing each other to improve and more a group of folks who are doing their best to enjoy doing a tough thing together. Lots of kindness and body positivity and hard work that is sometimes fast and sometimes slow and young and old and just makes the ol’ jog feel like a proper event, ya know?

At any rate, even if you never choose to do a big organized race, I hope you have fun! Keep up the hard work!

@wombatman70 that's good to know! given that context, it might actually push me to try one sometime.

anyway, thanks for the encouragement!
